The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago has declared that the State government plans to spend N3 billion on palliatives, in order to cushion the effect of petrol subsidy removal on the citizens.
Bago disclosed this at the closing of a-two-day retreat organized for Commissioners, members of the State House of Assembly, Special Advisers, Local Government council Chairmen and Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) held in the state.
He hinted that each ward in Chanchaga, Bida, Suleja and Kontagora local government areas are to receive N20 million, while the remaining words in 21 local government areas are to get N10 million each.
According to him, the money is to be used in purchasing food items at Ward level for onward distribution to the 274 wards at the grassroot levels, adding that a Committee will be set up in that regards for immediate implementation.
The Governor charged the retreat participants to be proactive in revenue generation saying that, revenue is what the State needs to drive its developmental plans .
Bago stressed that no lofty idea will be meaningful without available funds hence, every stakeholder in governance must be aggressive and intentional about revenue generation so as to meet the demands of the citizens.
