Niger govt urges farmers not to pay levies imposed by bandits

Niger state government has confirmed that bandits imposes levies on farmers from communities in some parts of the state, urging them not to pay any money to the criminals.

Commissioner for Local Government Community Development Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security Mr Emmanuel Umar made the disclosure while addressing journalists in Minna on current security situation. 

Mr Umar who assured farmers of safety of their lives and property to function effectively explained that the fight against insurgency is a war between evil and good which requires collective efforts by all and sundry to succeed.

He appealed to farmers not to comply with the directives.

He stressed that, “until we rise to the challenge collectively it will consume everybody.”

Mr Umar further hinted on the plans to establish Vigilante Corps who will be working with police to contain current security challenges.
