Niger Senator kicks against use of mercenary, amnesty for bandits

The Senator representing Niger East, Sen. Musa Mohammed Sani, has kicked against the call by some people for the granting of amnesty to Boko Haram members, bandits and kidnappers causing mayhem across the country.

The Senator who was responding to questions from media men also said he was against hiring of mercenaries to help in the fight against the criminals.

He said was rather for harnessing all the machinery of state towards fighting the insecurity to the end.

The Senator had sponsored a Motion on the floor of the Senate on the activities of bandits and Boko Haram terrorists in Shiroro, Munya and Rafi LGAs of Niger state.

When asked about the call for the granting of amnesty to the criminals, he said “ I do not also subscribe to the idea of granting amnesty to those who have turn their guns against harness Nigerians.

“We know what the Niger delta militants agitated for. We know they did that for the control of their resource hence, amnesty for them was in order. But what are the bandits and Boko Haram terrorists fighting for? Islam? Certainly, not. No true Muslim kills indiscriminately even in fasting period.

“ I don’t also want to agree with those who are asking that we recruit mercenaries to fight for us. This is  because we have enough able body men roaming the streets of the Nigerians without job.

“Why will we not put them to good use. After all, these bandits also rely on these boys to commit their heinous acts. They can be matched force to force unless they surrounded to the state powers.

I would want to see all state machineries directed at finding solution to the crisis.”
