Director General, Kaduna State Bureau for Substance Abuse, Prevention and Treatment (KADBUSA), Dr. Joseph Maigari, said Nigeria has moved being a drug transit nation to a consumer, a situation which he said has contributed in no small measure to the security challenges facing the country.

Maigari said the transition of the country was due to failure of the authorities to pay attention to drug demands, while it was fighting suppliers of drugs many years ago.

The Director General who said drug abuse is one of the root causes of banditry and other form of insecurity in Nigeria, said it has become a pandemic, with about 10.9% of people in Kaduna state involved in drug abuse.
