Nigeria to launch indigenous satellite in 2018

The minister of science and technology, Mallam Abdu Bulama has disclosed the ministry’s readiness to launch made in Nigeria satellite in 2018.

The minister made the disclosure on Tuesday during the inspection of the stage of development facilities in both the National Space Development and Research Agency (NASDRA) and National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) offices.

“2018 by the grace of God, we want to see made in Nigeria satellite launch here. This, in this workshop, this, in this laboratory is launch by our Nigeria scientists.”

Bulama who said that research officers were the key urged the two agencies on innovation. “There must be innovation in research, we must be able, whatever you want to call it, whether technology transfer, there must be innovation. He further urged the agencies to strengthen relationship with universities and polytechnics in research, adding President Goodluck Jonathan was giving them his support.

While expressing satisfaction on the level of development of facilities he said “I am happy with what I have seen, but you should do more” adding “Nobody gives technology on platter gold.

The minister said with commitment they can still do more, saying they were going to sit down and see how they were going to strategise. He added that by next year there was going to be a lot of development.

Expressing further, Bulama said that it was their responsibility to make science and technology development culture.

Also, the minister who urged the two agencies on due process said that in the long run the agencies should have to change their thinking for them to be able to deliver.
