Ozone-Friendly Practices: FG trains 12, 000 air-conditioning practitioners

The Federal Government has trained no fewer than 12, 000 members of Nigeria Association of Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Practitioners on various ozone-friendly practices.

Mr John Akhabue, the president of the association, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recently in Ibadan that his members had received training on how to dispose of their old gases.

He said members of the association had also received training on how to use new ozone-friendly gases.

According to him, the training is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

The president said that the association had also recently received 30 units of low pressure machines donated by UNIDO and the ministry.

He said 14 units of the machines were received by some members in Abuja while 16 units were received in Ibadan on Sept. 16 and 18 respectively.

“The 30 units of low pressure foam machines worth N220 million donated to us is aimed at boosting the campaign for the protection of the ozone layer.

“We have been trained and we have been given equipment to recover, recharge and to recycle Chlorofluorocarbons.

“They have also provided members with machines that can make low pressure foam, this low pressure foam are used to insulate refrigerators and ice making machine,’’ he said.

Mr Adams Adegbola, a beneficiary, said he had already received training on how to use the machine.

“We have been having this challenge of using ozone depleting substances in our practice but it has come to pass now, with the new machine,’’ he said.

Similarly, Abideen Oyegoke, another beneficiary appreciated the support of the Federal Government and its partners for providing the machines.

“A team from the ministry had visited my shop to ensure the machine would be properly kept, installed and effectively used,’’ he said.
