Nigeria Youth Organization inaugurates nine-man National Caretaker Committee

The Nigeria Youth Organization (NYO) has inaugurated a nine-man National Caretaker Committee with a mandate to pilot the affairs of the body in the interim for the next six months.

Recall that the former National Executive Council of the NYO led by Amb. Abdullahi Wali Abubakar, was dissolved following the expiration of its five-year tenure and a Caretaker Committee headed by Hon. Onyeamechi Ugwu for a maximum period of six months was appointed.

The inaugural oath was administered on the new caretaker executive by Barrister Surayya Isah, in Abuja, at the supervision of the Executive Secretary, Board of Trustees (BoT) and former President of the NYO, Dr. Olusegun Adeleye.

Speaking with journàlists yesterday after accepting the caretaker leadership of the NYO, the acting National President, Jerry Onyemaechi Ugwu, said the country stands at a critical juncture where the dreams of the forefathers and the aspiration of the youths converge.

He said together the Nigerian youths possess the power to shape a brighter tomorrow for themselves and generation yet to come, adding that his vision for the organisation is unity, empowerment and collaboration.

According to him, “We shall stand united, transcending ethnic, religious and regional barriers to harness the strength of our diversity. Together we will foster an inclusive environment where every young Nigerian feels heard, valued and encouraged to contribute their unique talents and ideas.”

While acknowledging the challenges faced by Nigerian youths and the pivotal role NYO plays in shaping the future of the country, Hon. Ugwu said “Empowerment will be at the heart of our endeavors. We will work tirelessly to equip our youths with the necessary skills, knowledge and resources to thrive in an ever evolving world. By providing educational opportunities, vocational training and entrepreneurship support, we will unlock the immense potential within each young Nigerian”.

At this juncture, he declared readiness to actively engage with government, private sector, civil society with a view to forge partnership that amplify the impact of the NYO to the society, just as he pointed out that the organisation in its engagements with stakeholders, will advocate for policies that prioritise youth development, social justice and sustainable progress.

He said “Through digital initiatives and connectivity programmes, we will empower young people to participate in the digital economy and access opportunities that were once beyond their reach”.

Meanwhile, the National Caretaker Committee members of the NYO includes: Jerry Onyemaechi Ugwu (National President), Aliyu Musa Yankara, (Vice President), Oluwatobi Ogunbayo (General Secretary), Anselem Eziwhuo (Organising Secretary), Halima Salaudeen (Women Leader).

Others are: Olushola Temitope Oladosu (Publicity Secretary), Muhammad Shaibu (Treasurer), Emeh Robert (Financial Secretary) and Jiddai Gadzama (Director of security and intelligence).
