Nigerian youth under the auspices of Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC) have commended OPay (Paycom), for its outstanding commitment to youth development through the launch of its ₦1.2 billion scholarship initiative for students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Opay, a leading fintech in mobile financial payment services has been in the forefront of leveraging technology to fastract digital payment solutions for business across Nigeria. This scholarship initiative has only served to deepen the company’s commitment to education, empowerment, and social responsibility in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by Comrade Jethro Annum Terhile, NYC President and made available to journalists in Abuja on Monday, the organization hailed Opay for setting the pace for other companies and dismissed the widely held misconceptions that OPay lacks physical offices or could vanish with customers’ funds.
The Congress emphasized that, “OPay is a licensed financial institution by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and insured by Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), having met all regulatory and capital base requirements necessary for its operations.
“Over the past few years of its existence, OPay has proven to be one of the most reliable and efficient financial service providers in Nigeria. Beyond its technological innovation, the company has shown a strong commitment to social impact, inclusivity, and nation-building by providing financial services to the vast majority of underserved communities” the statement read.
The Congress further stated that OPay’s initiative reflects a forward-thinking approach to financial inclusion and youth empowerment, particularly at a time when many young Nigerians face challenges in accessing quality education and financial services.
“OPay has excelled in providing dependable and customer-friendly services, and now through this scholarship program, it is demonstrating an inspiring sense of corporate social responsibility that is both innovative and impactful. Indeed, it’s not about physical presence but effective service delivery,” the statement added.
The Nigerian Youth Congress equally expressed optimism about future collaborations with OPay in advancing financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and digital inclusion among young Nigerians.
“We want to assure Nigerians that OPay provides secure, dependable, and efficient banking solutions designed to meet the daily financial needs of individuals and businesses. Their services should therefore be embraced by Nigerian without any fear since they’re insured by NDIC.
“NYC celebrates this initiative, looking forward to future partnerships with OPay that will drive financial literacy, youth empowerment as well as employment opportunities for young people in Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
