The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has distanced itself from an X account operating under the name ‘Nigeria National Grid’, warning the public against relying on information published on the platform.
In a statement issued over the weekend ,NISO said it had earlier dissociated itself from the account in a press release dated January 17, 2026.
However, the organisation said it observed that the handle continues to disseminate “misleading and unauthorised” information about the national power grid.
“NISO does not own, manage, control, or operate the social media account on X (formerly Twitter) bearing the name ‘Nigeria National Grid’,” the statement reads.
“The individuals or entities operating it are unknown to the organisation and are in no way authorised to speak on its behalf, represent its views, or act under our name.”
NISO advised the public, media organisations, and stakeholders not to quote, reference, rely on, or attribute information published on the account to the system operator.
According to the organisation, any statements, claims or opinions shared through the account do not reflect its official position, operations or activities.
The system operator said all official communications concerning its activities and the management of the national grid are issued exclusively through its verified communication channels.
“As the legal entity mandated to manage the National Grid of Nigeria, all official communications from NISO are issued exclusively through its authorized platforms: Facebook & LinkedIn: @Nigerian Independent System Operator, Instagram: @officialniso_ng. X (formerly Twitter): @OFFICIALNISO_NG and Website: www.niso.org.ng,” the statement added.
The organisation also urged members of the public to disregard and report any unauthorised use of its identity or mandate.
NISO said it remains committed to transparency, accuracy and responsible communication with stakeholders and the general public.
