The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has warned that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) risks fresh legal battles if it mishandles ongoing disputes relating to court orders, raising concerns over potential disruption of the electoral timetable.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, issued the caution on Tuesday, stressing that improper interpretation of judicial pronouncements could trigger further litigation.
According to him, INEC must exercise caution in dealing with court rulings to avoid complicating the electoral process.
The development comes amid persistent internal crises within the NNPP, where rival factions have sought judicial intervention over leadership and structural control of the party.
The disputes have resulted in conflicting court decisions, creating uncertainty over which faction should be officially recognised by the electoral body.
Johnson noted that unresolved legal battles within political parties, if not properly managed, could undermine public confidence and create confusion ahead of key electoral activities.
He maintained that careful handling of such disputes is critical to ensuring stability in the country’s electoral process as preparations continue for future elections.
