NNPP rejects court rulings on dissolution of Kano executives

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed reports that a court in Kano State reversed the dissolution of its party executives, describing the development as false and legally flawed.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, said the NNPP National Working Committee (NWC) was not aware of any such court order, as it had not been served with any legal documents.

According to the party, reports circulating in the media that a Kano High Court reinstated its executives at the state, local government and ward levels should, for now, be treated as mere rumours.

The statement followed claims that Justice Nasiru Saminu of a Kano High Court allegedly issued an ex parte order granting an interim injunction to reverse the dissolution carried out by the NNPP leadership.

Reacting to this, the party insisted that even if such an order exists, it would amount to a serious violation of legal principles.

“We still regard the whole orchestration as a mere rumour. But if this is confirmed, we will take firm legal measures and ensure that the purported illegal injunction does not stand,” the statement said.

The NNPP argued that the court lacks the power to interfere in what it described as the internal affairs of a political party.

“Obviously, it can never stand because it is an illegality, a clear abuse of court process as the court lacks the jurisdiction to reverse a decision by the party, being an internal affair of the party.

“The dissolution of Kano State Executives of the party at all levels therefore stands,” the statement added.

The party further cited Supreme Court rulings to support its position, stressing that courts are not permitted to meddle in internal party matters.

“The Supreme Court in a plethora of cases ruled that political party affairs are non-justiciable as such matters are the internal affairs of political parties,” it said, adding that any contrary decision “could only be described as an exercise in legal rascality.”

The party further stated that “as the country inexorably moves towards 2027, the judiciary must come under close public scrutiny,” noting that some judges may be influenced by “unscrupulous politicians.”

The NNPP concluded that if the reported injunction is confirmed, it would pursue all lawful steps to ensure that any judicial officer involved is reported to the National Judicial Council for appropriate sanctions.
