No more admission of inmate for custody keeping at Kaduna Correctional Center – Chief

The Comptroller of Corrections Kaduna State Command, Sanusi Danmusa has said the command is no longer admitting new inmate into the custodial center
He disclosed this yesterday while speaking to the media in kaduna.
Danmusa disclosed that it is part of measure put in place to avert the spread of Covid-19 pandemic at the center .
According to him, the service wishes to reiterate that there is no case of COVID-19 in the Kaduna Maximum Custodial Centre or any other centre within the Command.
“We have put measures in place to ensure such is prevented in the centre ,all staff on duty upon entrance uses sanitizer hand glove and face mask and also testing of their temperature “he said
He also explains that , visit has been suspended across the 14 facilities in the state to avert the spread of the virus into the facility.
According to him, the center had earmark a separate place as isolation center in case of eventuality
He said ,the center is presently maintaining sanitary environment and making it tidy
While commenting on the recent civil unrest at the center controller said during the unrest the inmates attacked the staff on duty with various harmful objects
“And 10 members of staff were injured, however the inmates were overwhelmed and the situation has been contained with no record of escape.
According to him, based on preliminary investigation the Convicts were asking for their release based on the rumor making the rounds in some media that the federal government had directed the release of 70% of inmates.
He noted that, there is no such directive or instructions to the Service to release any percentage of inmates. Rather the Service awaits any directive to that effect and will not hesitate to implement such order.
“Base on the directives of the CGC Ja’afaru Ahmed, the State Command has put adequate measures on ground to contain the Virus.
While calling on the general public not to panic as the safe and humane custody of the inmates their priority
Controller Danmusa said , CGC has already set up an investigation panel to find out the immediate and remote causes of the incidence in order to forestall future occurrences.
