President of Northern Women In Politics, (NWIP), Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdullahi has pleaded with the Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA) to take keen interest in the case of the young woman who was assaulted and raped by Abdulmumuni Danga, a Commissioner in Kogi State, and prosecute it to a logical conclusion.
Abdullahi also called on human rights groups to lend their voices in strong condemnation of the act saying “No rapist should get away with the crime not even lightly, enough is enough”.
Recall that last Friday, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State suspended Abdulmumuni Danga and ordered an accelerated investigation into the case.
It was reported that Mr Danga was suspended over a report alleging that he assaulted and raped one Elizabeth over a Facebook post.
Elizabeth, was reported to have been kidnapped and raped after she told the commissioner on Facebook to assist his sister and family financially.
The NWIP President said: “The so-called Commissioner thought he had exercised his power over his victim by traumatizing her and taking control of her life. More often such acts happen without the predator protecting his victim.
“Suspending him from his position is not enough, he must be punished with a longer prison sentence, even locked up for life to serve as a deterrent to others.
Rape is forced and sexual assault, a behavior crime that if left unchecked, will continue to happen in society.
Abdullahi called on all women, parents and teenagers alike to be vigilant to happenings around them especially with the stay at home situation occasioned by the ravaging effect of Coronavirus, where there are reports of so many such abuses.
