The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has unveiled five new nationwide enlightenment campaigns aimed at promoting government policies, national values, security awareness, disaster preparedness, and Nigeria’s national identity.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the Director-General of the NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, described the initiatives as a “coordinated national awakening” that would reach every part of the country over a 15-day period.
The campaigns will focus on five thematic areas — enlightenment on government policies, flood mitigation and disaster preparedness, national security awareness, values reorientation for students, and the promotion of Nigeria’s identity and national symbols.
According to Issa-Onilu, nearly 4,000 NOA staff across 818 offices in all 774 local government areas have been mobilised to carry out the campaign, which will begin on Wednesday, 20 August 2025.
“This is a defining moment for Nigeria,” he said.
“Our democracy thrives only when citizens are informed and actively engaged. Our communities are safer when citizens are alert and cooperative. Our heritage endures when we uphold our symbols and identity.”
The outreach will include press briefings in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as grassroots engagement in markets, schools, motor parks, religious centres, and community halls.
Campaign materials will be produced in English and major Nigerian languages. Daily broadcasts will also be aired on radio, television, and social media to reach citizens nationwide.
Issa-Onilu urged Nigerians to seek information from credible sources and called on the media, religious and traditional leaders, civil society organisations, and student bodies to support the initiative.
“This campaign will only succeed if we all work together,” he said.
“We urge our media partners to help spread these messages to every Nigerian.”
