The members of Social Protection Platforms from the implementing states of Kaduna, Jigawa and Zamfara have designed a better solution to address Gender Base Violences in North-west.
The solutions was designed during the three day training of Civil Society Organizations representatives from Kaduna, Jigawa and Zamfara states on Gender-responsive social protection and Gender-Based Violences, organised by Save the Children International held at Kano.
Speaking during the training, the Coordinator Gender and Inclusion of Save the children, Juliana Umaru said, the objectives of the training is to build capacity of participants on GBV, sensitization and community awareness creation on the provision of more GBV service providers for survivors.
Juliana maintained that, the training will also give the participants a capacity to understand GBV, gender focused on SP and the roles of various stakeholders in mitigating GBV as well as the SP interventions in reducing cases of GBV.
While delivering his speech, the chairman Jigawa Social Protection Platform (JISOP), Comrade Shuaibu Musa Kafin-Gana identified under reporting of GBV, inadequate Sexual Referral Centres, high level number of unemployment and low awareness creation as major challenges in reducing the GBV in the state.
Comrade Kafin-Gana added that, to address the challenges, adequate justice for victims need to be provided, more awareness and sensitization to citizens, creation of more SARC centres for the victims, as well as provision of more skills acquisitions centres across the state.
The chairman who described Social Protection programs as better solutions to Gender Based Violences, urged government at various level to double their efforts on Social Protection programs for peaceful and better communities development in Nigeria.
