The Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF) has frowned at the utterances of some northern elites in creating confusion and unnecessary tension in the scheme of things, especially the political arena, with a sole aim of achieving their selfish interest to detriment of the larger populace in the region.
National Chairman of the forum, Comrade Elliot Afiyo, who warned against the tendency, cautioned the politicians involved in such under-hand dealings to recant their ways, as according to him, it is capable of plunging the state into unfathomable crisis.
“We strongly frown at the actions and inactions of the acting governor of Taraba state, Alhaji Sani Danladi and the PDP stakeholders in the state who went to visit the PDP national chairman demanding for zoning of governorship to the southern zone of the state.
Comrade Afiyo accused some powerful elites from Taraba state including the acting governor of using religion sentiments to prevent the immediate acting governor of the state, Alh Garba Umar from clinching the gubernatorial ticket of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“We view this latest stance as a calculated attempt to deny Alh Garba Umar and Muslims of Taraba state the privilege of governing the state even at once and trading the peace, religious and ethnic unity in the state,” he said.
Afiyo, who at a press conference held in Yola Adamawa state capital yesterday, said his forum deemed it fit to send the warning signals in view of the fact that Taraba state has been witnessing internecine conflict between various groups which in the past led to the death of thousands of the indigenes and should not aggravate the situation because of their selfish interests.
