The National Open University of Nigeria has appointed Mr Ambrose B. Gowong as Head of its newly created New Media Unit.
The appointment, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, was conveyed in an internal memorandum dated March 13, 2026.
Gowong is expected to lead the university’s digital communication strategy, with responsibilities spanning content development, brand positioning, media monitoring and digital archiving.
The institution said the move reflects a renewed focus on strengthening its visibility and engagement across emerging media platforms.
In addition to the role, Gowong has been designated compere for the university’s social functions, while academic ceremonies will continue to be handled by the Registrar.
He holds a Higher National Diploma from Kaduna Polytechnic and postgraduate qualifications, including a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from NOUN.
He also earned a Master’s degree in Development Communication from Kaduna State University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Mass Communication.
The university said the establishment of the New Media Unit under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor is aimed at centralising its communication channels to ensure timely and accurate information dissemination.
It urged faculties, directorates and study centres to collaborate with the unit to support its mandate.
