The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) and National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) yesterday met with Banks and other related institutions on production of senior citizens identity cards.
Speaking at the event in Abuja, the Director General NSCC, Dr. Emem Omokaro stated that the Centre is engaging in strategic multi-sectoral partnerships and data application to identify needs of older persons and to initiate, facilitate and effectively coordinate programs.
According to her, many services will cater for the needs and improve quality of life and wellbeing of the older persons.
“This roundtable meeting, we hope, being a joint novel and maiden meeting on funding possibilities for the production of functional and seamless (3 in 1) Identity cards for Senior Citizens, would provide equal opportunity for all present to contribute your perspectives and ideas to the national project,”She explained.
Speaking on the benefits that accrue to the Identity card, the Director of Active Ageing and Support Services NSCC, Kayode Fagbemi, said it would be used for payments and access to other services, get exemptions from some taxes such as VAT, free health benefits, vaccinations.
Others are health services at cheaper rates, reduced phone charges, more straightforward passport application, access to social security intervention, discount on utility bills and several others.
