The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has urged disaster management stakeholders across the country to focus more on prevention strategies rather than waiting until emergencies occur.
Odumosu made the call while receiving officials of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Abuja branch, led by its chairperson, Madam Rhoda Samande, during a courtesy visit to his office in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

According to the NSCDC boss, putting the right preventive measures in place would reduce the need for reactive emergency responses, as many disasters could be avoided before they happen.

He explained that the Corps remains a key player in disaster prevention and management, having worked with other agencies during past incidents such as building collapses, fire outbreaks, and other emergencies.

Odumosu noted that the NSCDC’s mandate aligns closely with the humanitarian role of the Nigerian Red Cross, making collaboration between both organizations important.

“Partnering with you in sensitizing communities on early warning signs, personal hygiene, accountability, and other preventive measures is commendable,” he said, adding that the Corps is open to any meaningful partnership that benefits humanity.

The Commandant also praised the Red Cross for its long-standing humanitarian efforts, noting that the organization has expanded beyond first aid into broader disaster prevention initiatives.

In her remarks, Madam Rhoda Samande said the visit was aimed at renewing the already existing partnership between the Red Cross and the NSCDC.

She expressed appreciation for the support Red Cross officials have continued to receive from NSCDC personnel during field operations and appealed for the synergy to be strengthened.
