The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has urged politicians to immediately stop divisive and inflammatory comments capable of escalating the crisis resulting from the emergence of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano.
Secretary General of the council, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said last night that the Emirship being a traditional and religious institution and should not be politicised.
“We are appealing to politicians to keep away from the Kano Emirate issue to allow us solve the problem. They (politicians) should stop making divisive and inflammatory comments on the appointment of the new Emir of Kano, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi capable of escalating the crisis.
“The Emirship is both traditional and religious. The Council therefore appeals to politicians to leave the matter to traditional and religious institutions who are seeing to the smooth completion of the transition in Kano,” Oloyede said.
