NTI distributes N1bn computers to promote teachers’ education

National Teachers Institute (NTI) Director-General, Associate Professor Aminu Ladan Sharehu, yesterday, said the institute had procured and distributed computers worth 1 billion naira to promote teachers’ education and development in the country.

According to him, the Institute would set up model primary computer centres across the county to enhance teachers’ computer knowledge.

Professor Aminu, disclosed this while presenting 400 computers to three selected institutions in the State as part of NTI’s gesture to those institutions.

He added that against the backdrop of the scenario, the institute used its connection to secure the donation of the computer sets and other accessories from an international donor agency worth over one billion naira.

“We have since started distributing these computer sets and laptops along with their allied accessories for the use of Nigeria’s’ teachers through the establishment of model computer laboratories in 37 states and FCT, free of charge.

“Our plan is also to equip all our field centers, with e-learning facilities for easy access to the internet for teachers nationwide. The institute is committed to the creation of ideal learning environment for the Nigerian teachers such that will enable them to learn with minimal stress,” he said.

Prof. Sharehu said they selected these institutions because they are NTI’s partners in teachers training and producing quality teachers across the country.

He said National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) received 100 desktops and 50 laptops while National Mathematical Centre got 40 desktops and 10 laptops, and Adeyemi College of Education, got 150 desktops and 50 laptops. he said.

Acting Provost, Adeyemi College of Education, Dr Femi Olajuyigbe commended the NTI management for the gesture, as he assured them of making sure that the computers served the purpose it was given.
