The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted official recognition and operational licence to the University of Innovation, Science and Technology, Omoma, established by the Imo State Government.
Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, presented the licence to Governor Hope Uzodimma in Abuja, noting that the approval brought the total number of universities in the country to 301.
Ribadu said the development reflected Imo State’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and promoting innovation-driven growth.
He assured that the Commission would provide necessary guidance to ensure the university meets national quality standards.
With the approval, the NYSC, JAMB, TETFund and NELFUND are to recognise the institution.
“So these are the seven universities that currently exist, and with this one, after the recognition, it will become the earth in the state,the IMO state government, under your visionary leadership, has made remarkable progress in expanding access to quality higher education through supportive policies, infrastructure development and funding initiatives.
“The establishment of the University of innovation, science and technology omoma, as the is a bold and strategic step that reflects your strong commitment to empowering the youths, developing the workforce and promoting knowledge driven growth across IMO state.
“As we celebrate this achievement, I call on all stakeholders, including government officials, university administrators, staff and students, to work together to ensure that the institution flourishes and upholds the highest standards of academic integrity, should also uphold good research such excellence and good governance,” he said .
