Nursing and Midwifery Council Accreditation Team Expresses Satisfaction With Facilities At FUDMA
The Professional Accreditation Team of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), has commended the impressive infrastructural development, academic facilities and conducive learning environment at the Federal University Dutsin-ma (FUDMA).
The team gave its verdict following the completion of its accreditation exercise for programmes in the Faculty of Nursing Sciences.
The Team Leader and Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Sani N. Garba, expressed satisfaction with the facilities and level of preparedness demonstrated by FUDMA.
He said the team was impressed with the quality of infrastructure and the University’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for Nursing education, saying: “We are very happy with what we have seen here in FUDMA. The structures are impressive, the facilities are good, staffing is encouraging, the students are committed and the offices are quite adequate with air-conditioning, stable electricity and other essential amenities”

While commending the University’s achievements, the team also identified areas requiring further improvement to strengthen the Faculty, ahead of future accreditation exercises.
Among these are the need for a larger Public Health Nursing Laboratory, noting that “the existing laboratory is too small to adequately support the programme”.
The team also recommended “the establishment of a dedicated physical library for the Faculty of Health Sciences” and called for improved internet accessibility within the faculty, “to enhance teaching, learning and research activities”.
Members of the team include Dr. Adamu Alhaji, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare; Nr. Ali Mohammed Goniri, Committee Secretary from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Headquarters, Abuja; Muhammad Shehu Abubakar of the NMCN Headquarters, Abuja and Isyaku Hussaini, Zonal Officer, Katsina/Zamfara.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman, expressed delight over the visit and appreciated the team for their commitment and professionalism throughout the accreditation exercise.
He reaffirmed the University’s “unwavering commitment to the continuous growth and development of the Faculty of Health Sciences”, stressing that “the management is deploying every available resource to strengthen the faculty and the institution as a whole”.
n his words: “We are putting all hands on deck to move the Faculty forward and the University at large”.
The Vice-Chancellor recalled that upon assuming office, security was his immediate priority, noting that strategic meetings were held with the Commander of the 17 Brigade, Katsina; the Commissioner of Police and the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), to ensure a safe and secure academic environment for staff and students.
Prof. Othman also highlighted major improvements recorded on the Main campus, including “uninterrupted water supply, 24-hour electricity supply and enhanced internet services”.According to him, the University has concluded plans to relocate about 7,000 students to the Main campus by September, 2026, as part of efforts to improve teaching, learning and administration.
He assured the accreditation team that every recommendation, suggestion and observation contained in their report would receive prompt attention, as soon as the official report is submitted to the University.
The Vice-Chancellor received the team alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Sulaiman and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Elizabeth Ihugh Yecho.
The visit concluded with the Vice-Chancellor thanking the accreditation team for its objective assessment and valuable recommendations, assuring them of the University’s readiness to address the identified gaps, in line with its vision of becoming a centre of excellence in health sciences education and research.
The courtesy visit marked the successful conclusion of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s accreditation exercise at FUDMA and reaffirmed the University’s determination to maintain the highest standards in professional health education
