Oluremi Tinubu promises relief from hardship, seeks North-Central support

Date:

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged voters in the North-Central to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, promising that Nigerians would begin to experience relief from economic hardship.

She made the appeal on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress North-Central mega rally held at Lafia Square in Nasarawa State.

Mrs Tinubu, who attended the rally as Special Guest of Honour, said the administration’s economic reforms were intended to reposition the country and improve the living conditions of Nigerians.

She acknowledged the challenges associated with the reforms but argued that the government’s policies would deliver long-term benefits.

The First Lady cited interventions in healthcare, road infrastructure and education, including the student loan scheme, which she said was designed to improve access to higher education for students from low-income backgrounds.

“A renewed mandate will bring tremendous Renewed Hope and further progress in addressing the challenges facing our nation,” she was quoted as saying.

The rally was organised by the North-Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network to mobilise support for President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general election.

Thousands of APC supporters from Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, attended the event.

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, who hosted the rally, declared the state’s continued support for the ruling party.

In his welcome address, Sule said Nasarawa would vote for the APC presidential candidate and other candidates of the party in the 2027 elections.

The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the gathering as the “mother of all rallies”.

Governors and other party leaders from the region also expressed support for Tinubu’s second-term bid, citing what they described as changes in the economy and other sectors under his administration.

The endorsement followed a meeting of North-Central APC stakeholders in Abuja, where party leaders reportedly agreed to adopt Tinubu as their sole presidential candidate and mobilise support for his re-election.

However, the rally came amid concerns over security in Nasarawa State.

Earlier, the Nasarawa State Police Command had urged political parties to suspend rallies scheduled for Saturday, October 10, citing security concerns ahead of the First Lady’s visit to Lafia.

The rally nevertheless provided a platform for the APC leadership to begin consolidating political support in the North-Central ahead of the 2027 general election.
