Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, has said the governorship election scheduled for Osun state on August 9, as well as the 2015 general elections, will be better than last week Ekiti governorship polls.

Speaking in the second quarterly meeting he held with political parties at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, Jega promised that the Commission will not rest on its oars, but will continue to work collectively to sustain improvement on their achievements.

Speaking further, Jega said the successful conduct of the peaceful election in Ekiti was a good omen for the subsequent elections to come, and for a consolidated democracy.

He therefore urged all political parties to continue to abide by all the provisions of the political parties Code of Conduct, even as he reassured them of INEC’s commitment to work closely with them to sanitise and reform the Nigerian electoral process.

Meanwhile, the INEC chairman commended all stakeholders, including security, candidates, corps members, INEC staff, CSOs, political parties, for their positive contributions in the Ekiti electoral process, saying it resulted in the success recorded at the end of the exercise.

Responding for political parties, the Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Tanko Yunusa, said the parties would not mince words in commending INEC for conducting free, fair and credible election in Ekiti.
