ll Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has dissolved its caretaker committee in Imo state with a promise that a new one would be put in place soon to give the party the required spread and vigour in the state ahead of 2015 governorship election.

This is even as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim, has forwarded to the chairman of the National Conference, Justice Idris Kutigi, the names of Victor Umeh and Sani Shinkaffi, as the genuine delegates to represent APGA in the conference.

Briefing journalists yesterday in Abuja, APGA Chairman, Victor Umeh, said the necessity to reconstitute the committee and reposition it for effective and virile leadership in Imo state has become inevitable given the disagreements among members of the dissolved committee.

Umeh who regretted that nine months after the committee was put in place to unite the party in Imo state, its members have been preoccupied with activities that failed to galvanise and unite the party in the state.

He said the committee has polarised itself and the party members in the state, hence the need to reconstitute a new one which will harmonise interest and unite party faithfuls in the state.

The chairman also blamed the dissolved committee for inundating the party’s secretariat with multiple petitions and counter petitions, saying there party should be united to forge a common front ahead of 2015 elections.

In addition, he said the party has appointed four additional members into its National Working Committee (NWC) in acting capacity, as directed by its National Executive Committee (NEC) after its last meeting in January, pending its National Convention.

Those appointed, according to him, are: Uchenna Okogbuo (Acting National Vice Chairman, South East), Okwukwe Ibiam (Acting National Publicity Secretary), Ikechukwu Chukwunyere (Acting National Youth Leader), and Ezinne Amaka Agbiogwu (Acting National Women Leader).

Meanwhile, APGA has passed a vote of confidence on the newly elected Governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano, for his impressive takeoff as Anambra state governor, especially his courage in tackling insecurity in the state.

It also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for providing adequate security during last week governorship election in Ekiti state, even as it congratulated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for putting out an outstanding performance.

Moreover, a copy of the letter obtained by our correspondent said the substitution of Maxi Okwu and Musa Maidoya as APGA’s delegates to the confab was due to the recent Appeal Court judgement, which upheld Umeh as the chairman of the party.
