Dr. Christopher Otabor, Chief Consultant Orthopeadics Surgeon, Alliance Hospital, has received an award from the University of Abuja.
The award by the Vice Chancellor,
Professor Mathew Adamu, was in recognition of his contribution to the Department of Health Sciences in the university.
Speaking while receiving the award, Dr. Otabor called on well meaning Nigerians to donate to Nigeria’s institutions.
He said the government needs those with the capacity to donate to the institutions, which he said is a common practice in saner climes.
“Govt alone cannot fund tertiary education. People with means must rise up to assist .
“It is also interesting to know that private donations is driving the western worlds”.
Speaking further, he said Nigeria’s medical graduates are some of the best in the world.
“They are good quality that can compete anywhere in the world. We will continue to ensure continuity, keep training those that will take over from us.
Speaking on the japa syndrome, Otabor said the trend is a global issue because of economic challenges. “But that is why we are contributing to train more doctors so as to have others on ground who can do the job.”
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, said he is happy that the 75 inducted medical doctors are products of his school.
“This is the highest number in the history of our university.
“We thank the staff for the excellent work that they have done. We are confident that these students will compete favorably in the global stage.
“I urge them to be hard working in their future endeavors.”
On his part, Provost College of Health Sciences, Prof. Titus Ibekwe, said he was elated by the feat recorded, saying that the students will standout anywhere they find themselves.”
