Delta State Government has called on oil companies operating in the state to ensure they abide by the memorandum of understanding (MoU) entered with their host communities to have a peaceful operating environment.
The State Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, made the call in Warri during a reconciliatory meeting held with selected leaders from Ogulagha and Odimodi communities co-hosting the multi-billion naira Focados Terminal in Burutu Local Government Area.
Otuaro, who spoke to newsmen shortly after meeting with leaders of the two communities, noted that one of the critical areas that breeds problems between oil operating companies and their hosts was non-adherence to the content of MoU they entered.
“Adherence to MoU by oil companies is very important. All these is needed to build the expected peace and order in the communities where they operate, because without that, we will be running into problems and that is not good for us as a people,” Otuaro stated.
