Pam unveils C’ttee to revive FCT Nursing, Midwifery

In a bid to reposition and revitalize the FCT School of Nursing and Midwifery, Gwagwalada, the FCT Secretary of Health and Human Services, Barr. Amanda Pam have unveiled a nine-man committee.
This is coming barely one week after she paid an unscheduled visit to the institution, to assess the state of facilities there, in continuation of her tour of major healthcare facilities in the Territory.
While inaugurating the committee in her office, the Secretary charged it with the responsibility of examining the challenges, directly or indirectly impeding the growth and progress of the institution since its creation in 1981.
Pam said that despite the vast land provided by the FCT Administration after establishment of the institution since 1981, the infrastructure in place was nothing to write home about, and hence will not help in improving the quality of graduants from the institution.
She therefore urged the committee to investigate the problems that are retarding the growth and development of the place to an enviable standard.
The Secretary also charged the committee to proffer appropriate ways and mean that will engender improvement in the institution, considering its uniqueness and window of opportunity that could be exploited through collaboration with relevant stakeholders, institutions both locally and internationally.
She advised the committee to involve technocrats with requisite knowledge for successful execution of their assignment with high level of objectivity and conclude the assignment within four weeks as the time frame for the committee.
Furthermore, the committee will equally review the methods of selection of intake and placements of suitably qualified candidate into the institutions justifying the existence of the institutions and recommending the need to the institutions expansion in terms of curriculum and otherwise.
Others include; to examine any related issues as maybe deemed fit by the committee and make appropriate recommendation to the Administration.
Our correspondent reports that the nine-man committee comprises of Barr. (Mrs.) Justina Maimagani, the Director (Administration and Finance), FCT Health Management Board, who will serve as the chairperson with Mr. Ogar J.O. as the Secretary.
Others are: the Director (HPRS) Health and Human Services Secretariat, member, Director Nursing services Health and Human Services Secretariat Member, Director (FCT Higher Education) Education Secretariat member, Asst. Director Works Health and Human Services Secretariat member, Principal FCT School of Nursing, Principal FCT School of Midwifery and the Special Asst. (Technical) to the Hon. Secretary Health and Human Services Secretariat also as a member.
Responding on behalf of other members of the committee, the Chairperson, Mrs Maimagani thanked the Secretary for the confidence reposed in them, and expressed their readiness to complete their assignment on schedule.
She added that members see the assignment as a call to duty and commend the Hon. Secretary for her motherly care in providing the appropriate health care services to the teeming FCT residents.
