Payment of hazard allowance arrears excites FUDMA staff
The management of Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) has commenced the payment of five months arrears of hazard allowance to staff.
The development, authorised by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammed Khalid Othman, has generated excitement across the university community.
The Secretary of the local branch of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Sadiq Hassan Rufai, said they were overwhelmed by the gesture of the Vice Chancellor.
He described him as “a man of impeccable character and humane disposition”, adding that the union appreciates the gesture.
“We are highly appreciative and commend him for the gesture. The VC shared 5 kilogram of rice to all staff of the University to support them during the Eid-el-Fitr and Easter festive seasons. He is indeed a leader”.
On her part, the Branch Chairperson of Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Nafisa Mansur Safana, said “Prof. Othman is indeed a man of his words; he promises and fulfils his promise.”
“On behalf of all my members, I want to sincerely appreciate the VC and his management for this and other welfare support to all staff; he is indeed a complete gentleman and a father figure,” she added.
This is the first time in the history of the University that the benefiting staff, mostly Senior Non-Teaching cadre, are receiving the allowance since it was approved.
The SSANU and NASU leadership recently met with the Vice Chancellor, where they asked for the payment of the hazard allowance as being done in other Universities.
Prof. Othman had at the time promised to settle the outstanding allowances as soon as funds are available, just as he paid the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowances (CATA).
