The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has attributed its lingering internal crisis to what it described as the misinterpretation of a recent Supreme Court judgment.
The party’s National Vice Chairman (South East), Ray Nnaji, made this known while addressing journalists over the weekend amid growing tensions within the party.
Nnaji dismissed claims of a leadership vacuum, insisting that the PDP’s structure remains intact and operational.
He maintained that the party leadership is firmly in control of its affairs, including its national secretariat, contrary to speculations in some quarters.
His remarks followed a contrary position by former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, who had suggested that the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) had taken over its leadership in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling on the disputed Ibadan national convention.
Wabara had argued that the BoT, as the party’s second-highest organ, was constitutionally empowered to assume interim leadership after the court nullified outcomes linked to rival factions from the convention.
However, Nnaji rejected the interpretation, stressing that it does not reflect the true position of the apex court’s decision.
The development underscores ongoing disagreements within the PDP over the implications of the judgment, further deepening internal divisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
