The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the Federal Government over its response to allegations involving the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, describing the development as another indication of what it called poor governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement shared on its verified X account on Sunday, the opposition party reacted to claims made by Adeniyi Adeyemi, who identified himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Peoples Daily reports that Adeyemi alleged that Gbajabiamila received N400 million through a proxy and later demanded an additional N200 million to facilitate his appointment.
The Presidency has rejected the allegations, with Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga stating that Gbajabiamila does not have the authority to make appointments and describing Adeyemi as an impostor who fraudulently gained access to government circles.
However, the PDP argued that the Presidency’s response failed to directly address the bribery allegations.
The party said the government’s explanation had raised further questions about internal processes and accountability within the administration.
According to the PDP, the controversy reflects broader concerns about transparency, merit and governance, alleging that the APC-led administration has repeatedly been embarrassed by avoidable controversies.
The opposition party also cited previous incidents it described as administrative lapses, including disputed appointments and other controversies, claiming they point to what it called a recurring pattern of institutional shortcomings.
The Presidency has continued to dismiss the allegations against Gbajabiamila, insisting that the claims are unfounded.
