Lamido urges PDP hopefuls to focus on national challenges ahead of 2027 elections

A former Jigawa State Governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has urged the party’s governorship candidates and other aspirants to centre their campaigns on policies and solutions to Nigeria’s pressing challenges rather than personal attacks as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather pace.
Lamido gave the advice while receiving PDP governorship candidates from Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Yobe states at his residence in Bamaina, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
He stressed that politics should be driven by ideas capable of addressing the country’s socio-economic and security problems, saying campaigns should present voters with practical alternatives instead of targeting political opponents.
According to him, Nigerians deserve to hear what candidates and political parties intend to offer the country, particularly in tackling insecurity, improving education, strengthening the economy and fighting corruption.
Lamido maintained that concentrating on issues rather than personalities would help promote national unity and lay the foundation for a government that reflects the aspirations of the people.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the PDP governorship candidate in Gombe State and former Minister of Communications, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, said the visit was to seek Lamido’s counsel and support ahead of the elections.
Pantami described the former governor as a respected statesman who has consistently demonstrated courage and commitment to speaking the truth, adding that Nigeria needs leaders who prioritize the interests of ordinary citizens regardless of political considerations.
