A front line governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Dr. Ifedi Okwenna, has advised Nigerians to always be security conscious wherever they find themselves.
Okwenna, who said that although people should not lose faith in government providing adequate security for the citizenry, maintained that they have civic duty to beef up security by reporting suspicious movements around them to the law enforcement agencies.
The governorship aspirant joined the Laity of the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha to flag-off the 2020 Laity Week of the Archdiocese at St Dominic’s Catholic Church, Creek Road, Fegge, Onitsha, which attracted guests and Catholic faithfuls from the six Regions of the Archdiocese.
The former Commissioner for Environment, Mineral Resources, Science and Technology, in Anambra state, while speaking at the occasion, urged them to rededicate themselves to God and continuously pray to God that this era shall soon come to pass.
He urged them “not to lose hope in the system because that will be dangerous. Be assured that soon, sanity will be restored especially here in Anambra, if I secure that mandate of my party to contest the election and your mandate to ascend to the pinnacle of leadership of the state.
“I bring you message of hope, and I urge you to support us to bring the changes we desire in our state,” Dr. Okwenna said.
Responding the President, Laity Council of the Archdiocese of Onitsha, Comrade Obiefuna, commended Dr. Okwenna for his participation at the flag-off activities and for his continued support to Laity Council activities.
The week-long activity with the theme: “Persistent Insecurity in Nigeria – Need for Respect for Human Life”, was put together for Catholic faithfuls in the Archdiocese to reflect on the recent concerns by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) on the state of the nation, especially regarding violent crimes and the high level of insecurity in the country.
