PDP primary: Accept defeat, Sokoto group urges Shagari, others

Date:

From Raji Bello, Sokoto

A political group, Sokoto PDP Youths Mobilisation has called on all contenders in the just concluded governorship primary election to unite ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

The group also charged the Deputy Governor, Barrister Mukhari Shagari and Senator Abubakar Gada who lost in the election to accept the outcome in the spirit of sportsmanship in politics.

The election panel had declared Abdullah Wali as the winner with total votes of 547, while Abubakar Gada and Mukthar Shagari scored 193 and one votes respectively.

In a statement signed by the chairman of the group, Alhaji China Danrabi, a copy of which was made available to newsmen in Sokoto, urged the duo to accept the outcome of the primary poll in good faith and rally round the winner in the interest of the party.

It noted with dismay some inflammatory comments allegedly credited to the contenders, which according to the group is intended to weaken the party ahead of the general election.

They however described the election that produced Senator Abdullah Wali as a free, fair and transparent exercise.

“We call on both Alhaji Mukhtari Shagari and Senator Abubakar Gada to accept their loss in good faith, embrace the winner, and join hands with all people that wish Sokoto well and strength the PDP in the state.

“They should not to be making inflammatory statements with intent to weaken the party”, it stated.

The group added that as leaders of the party, they must show commitment to support the victory of President Jonathan and Senator Abdallah Wali who emerged as the party gubernatorial candidate for 2015 election.
