PDP Reacts to Senator Jarigbe’s Defection, Calls for Calm Among Members

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has officially acknowledged the defection of Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the development as a personal political choice deserving of respect.

In a statement issued after its State Working Committee (SWC) meeting held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, in Calabar, the PDP said it received the news of Senator Jarigbe’s defection with “mixed feelings.”

The party commended the senator, who represents Cross River North Senatorial District, for his contributions to the growth and stability of the PDP at both state and national levels, wishing him well in his new political journey.

While addressing the implications of the defection, the PDP leadership urged members across the state to remain calm and united, assuring them that the party remains strong and focused on rebuilding and reclaiming the confidence of Cross Riverians through democratic means.

“The PDP remains the only truly people-oriented platform dedicated to the service of all Cross Riverians,” the statement read.

The party further reiterated its commitment to strengthening its structures across all levels despite recent political developments.

The press release was signed by Joe Obi Bisong, the State Secretary of the PDP in Cross River State.
