The Former Assistant Secretary General on Technical, James Peters has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to appoint a national technical director to develop the game of football.
Peters, who himself alongside Amodu Shuaibu and Kashimawo Laloko were last year announced as national technical directors, even though their appointments were never ratified and as a result, they never officially worked in that capacity.
And he says the appointment of a technical director will aid the country’s football development.
“The Nigeria football federation needs to appoint a national technical director as this is what is needed to develop Nigerian football right from the grassroots.”
“The future of the game starts today, and that is where a technical director comes in. the technical director helps in the discovery of talents, and also fashion out a way for the national teams to play,” he said.
In 2012, the NFF had announced Belgian Tom Saintfiet as national technical director, but his appointment was cancelled when the former sports minister, Bolaji Abdullahi said his appointment didn’t follow due process.
And Nigeria are yet to have fully functional technical director since Kashimawo Laloko left the post, but director of technical at the NFF, Emmanuel Ikpeme has been acting in that capacity since the advent of the current NFF board.
