Man-city FC Dakata player, Emmanuel Nwatu has expressed confident that NPL 2014 champions, Kano Pillars will make Nigeria Proud in the CAF Champions League next season.
Emmanuel Nwatu, a right fullback of Man-city FC Dakata, told SL10.ng that Pillars has the quality in depth and that has shown in the number of players that were invited to the Super Eagles.
Pillars have won the NPFL trophy thrice in a row and twice they’ve failed to make an impact on the continent but Emmanuel Nwatu thinks otherwise.
“Yes I’m very confident that Kano Pillars will make Nigeria proud in the CAF Champions League next season. I’m confident because of the calibre of players they have.
“Don’t forget some of them are been called to represent Nigeria now with the home based Eagles and that only shows the quality in Masu Gida,” said Emmanuel
Kano Pillars have made three appearances in Africa’s top club football competition and their best performance was in 2009 when the NPFL champions got to the semi-final stage. Their other two adventures in that same competition wasn’t good, they couldn’t qualify for the group stage.
Nwatu sighted the experience of Kano Pillars coach, Okey Emordi as a big advantage for the team.
“Kano Pillars coach, Okay Emordi has won this competition before with Enyimba, he is an experience coach and that showed in the way Kano Pillars defended the league title. Also the form of Rabiu Ali who is a part of the Super Eagles will go along way for the team,” Emmanuel Nwatu stated.
Kano Pillars will start their CAF Champions League campaign away to Al-Malakia FC of South Sudan in the weekend of 13–15 Feb while the second leg in Kano will take place in the weekend of 27 Feb–1 Mar, 2015.
