Pinnick re-elected NFF president, calls for peace

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) incumbent president, Amaju Pinnick was yesterday re-elected into the office in an election held in Katsina.
Pinnick garnered 34 votes to beat his clsest rival Ahaji Aminu Maigari, a former president of the NFF who got 8 votes. Other contestants for the position, Taiwo Ogunjobi got 2 votes while.
In other results made available at the time of filling this report, Seyi Akunwumi was also re-elected as Vice President. The Lagos State Football Association Chairman got a total of 41 votes to defeat his opponent, Otunba Sunday Ajayi who got 2 votes.
Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau was reelected unopposed as NFF Chairman of Chairmen after his opponent, Ifeanyi Ubah withdrew at the eleventh hour.
Ahmed Fresh and Yahaya Kwande emerged as North Central representatives in the NFF Executive Board while Alhaji Babagana and Musa Duhu are executive members representing North East.
Speaking after his election, Pinnick who admitted it has been difficult for football in the country, called for peace and harmony.
“In four years, we have gone through rough and turbulent times, sleepless nights,” he recounted. Our coming back is that football is the winner, a total reconciliation of our football. That’s key, that’s cardinal. We need an enabling peace. We’re a family and we must stay united. We must be our brother’s keeper.
Meanwhile Chris Giwa who is recognised by the Supreme Court as NFF President got a court order yesterday stopping the NFF elections from being conducted.
The Senior Special Assistant to the president on Media, Victor Iroele confirmed the injunction but did not disclose the court.
The injunction came immediately the NFF executive committee of 2014-2018 was dissolved. Pinnick and his board were however served through substituted means.
