In a move to breathe new life into Plateau State’s tourism industry, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the hospitality sector through the rehabilitation of key heritage assets, like the iconic Plateau Hotel and Hill Station Hotel, both in Jos, the State capital.
On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Governor Mutfwang embarked on a tour of the two facilities to assess the pace of work and re-emphasize the government’s focus on tourism as a vital pillar of economic growth.
The visit showcased more than just construction progress; it highlighted the State Government’s broader vision of repositioning Plateau as a prime destination for both leisure and investment.
“This is not just about buildings. A lot of the history of Plateau State is tied to assets like these. These are monumental legacy assets intricately woven into our cultural and economic fabric,” Governor Mutfwang said during the tour.
For decades, Plateau State, known as the “Home of Peace and Tourism” drew visitors with its temperate climate, scenic landscapes, and rich cultural heritage.
However, years of underinvestment and neglect led to the decline of its once-thriving hospitality sector. With renewed political will and strategic investment, the State is now charting a path back to its golden era of tourism.
A cornerstone of this effort is the Plateau Hotel project, now being handled by Aviare Global Concept Ltd. Led by its Chairman/CEO, Mr. Kudla Satumari, the rehabilitation includes modern features designed to appeal to today’s tourists while preserving the charm of the original site.

Governor Mutfwang revealed that a significant section of the hotel is expected to be completed and opened for use by December 1, 2025, a timeline that signals the administration’s seriousness about delivering tangible results.
Equally important is the redevelopment of the historic Hill Station Hotel by Hillside Hospitality Ltd. Once a symbol of colonial elegance, the hotel is undergoing a transformation to meet global hospitality standards while retaining its classic appeal.
