The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has officially debunked widespread reports of an alleged kidnapping incident at the Phase 1 Primary School in Gbagalape, Abuja, clarifying that the incident was a false alarm.
The scare, which occurred on Thursday morning, June 4, 2026, triggered widespread panic and confusion within the local community before authorities cleared the scene.
Sudden Panic at the School
According to a statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Nyanya Police Division received a distress call at approximately 10:30 AM claiming that an active kidnapping was underway at the primary school.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the chaos began when students suddenly started shouting “kidnappers” and fled the school premises.
The sudden commotion quickly spread fear among teachers, parents, and neighboring residents.
In swift response to the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Nyanya mobilized a team of rapid-response officers and surveillance units to the school.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the campus and conducted a thorough, room-by-room search of the property.
To ensure public safety, police teams expanded their operation beyond the school grounds. SP Adeh confirmed that officers patrolled and searched surrounding hills and community boundaries
adjoining transit areas and escape routes and nearby neighboring schools as a precautionary measure.
Following an extensive search and rigorous questioning of staff, students, and witnesses, the police confirmed that no kidnapping had taken place.
She noted that no suspects were spotted, and no individuals were reported missing or harmed.
The FCT Command has urged members of the public to remain calm and exercise restraint on social media, warning that spreading unverified rumors only serves to generate unnecessary tension and fear within Abuja communities.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, reassured residents that security forces remain vigilant.
He encouraged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities or emergencies to their nearest station or directly via the command’s dedicated emergency hotlines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
