Police detain, release Goje over rally in Gombe

The Gombe state  Police Command  yesterday invited Sen. Danjuma Goje for questioning where it was alleged that the Senator organised a campaign rally at Kumo.

Speaking to newsmen at the Police Headquarters in Gombe, the Police Public Relation Officer, DSP FwajiAtajiri explained that the Command decided to invite  Goje due to intelligence report that a campaign rally was taking place at Kumo, whereby political thugs stormed the area with dangerous weapons.

According to the police spokesman his men were able to arrest some hoodlums with dangerous weapons at the venue of the event.

He said the police would not relent in combating crime in the state, adding that it is their  responsibility to maintain peace and order.

Speaking further, he called on the citizens to remain calm as, according to him, the police would everything possible to ensure their safety.

On his part, Sen. Goje affirmed that he was detained by the Police for three hours, saying every Nigerian has a right to visit his people, even as he said that his responsibility was to ensure that his people have sense of belonging in the society.
