In a press conference by the State Commissioner of Police at the Command’s headquarters Gusau, CP Usman Nagogo, said the Divisional Police Headquarters in charge of Tsafe has received an information and quickly mobilized men to the affected village.
“With the receipt of the information that armed bandits had stormed Maitagwaye village under ‘Yandoto district, our men on standby and some members of Vigilante group did not hesitate to move there and engaged the bandits.
“In the ensuing encounter, one of the bandits was gunned down and killed, and his AK47 rifle used in perpetrating the crime was recovered along with the corpse, while other bandits were forced to have taken to their heels”, CP Nagogo has said.
In the same light, two other suspects identified as Bello Sani and Auwal Hassan, were arrested by men of the Command after pasted a letter to the residences of Gyalange village head and the ward Councilor in Gummi local government area.
“The letter contained a message threatening that the sum of N3 million must be raised within three days failure of which the whole community would be wiped out. A phone number was inscribed through which the contact would be made for the delivery of the money.
“We used the phone number and the suspect was eventually arrested, and after his confessional statement, his accomplice, Auwal Hassan was also arrested. It is important to note that, people have been thinking that threatening letters of this kind were from bandits in the forest.
“But this particular arrest proved otherwise. The first arrested suspect, Bello Sani was onetime a wealthy individual in the community, but when his fortunes dwindled, he decided to raise capital from the same village he came from through paste of threatening letters”, the Commissioner has stated.
