Police foil bandit attacks, rescue trafficked children, arrest suspects

Date:

The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major operational breakthroughs across several states, repelling bandit attacks, foiling a kidnapping attempt, rescuing trafficked children and arresting scores of criminal suspects in coordinated security operations.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, saying the operations were carried out by joint security teams comprising police personnel and other security agencies.

In Sokoto State, joint security operatives repelled a bandit attack after a fierce gun battle.

The police said five magazines loaded with 40 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the scene, while confidence-building patrols and bush-combing operations had continued across the affected communities.

In Katsina State, security operatives also foiled a large-scale bandit attack, forcing the assailants to flee with what the police described as heavy casualties.

According to the statement, security presence has since been reinforced in the affected communities to prevent further attacks.

One suspected kidnapper was neutralised during the operation, while three empty AK-47 shells were recovered.

The statement said five suspected cultists were arrested during a coordinated operation in Enugu State.

It added that one pump-action gun and three live cartridges were recovered, while another locally fabricated pistol was recovered following a suspect’s confession.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend fleeing gang members.

The Force said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the suspect’s accomplices.

Similarly, in Ondo State, two suspected kidnappers and armed robbers were arrested.
