Political commentator accuses Atiku over Adamawa ADC ‘dwindling fortunes’

Fresh concerns have emerged over the stability of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following claims that several prominent political figures who helped establish the party’s coalition in Adamawa State have abandoned the platform.
Political commentator Imran Wakili made the assertion on Tuesday, blaming former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for what he described as the collapse of the coalition structure built around the party in the state.
In a post on X, Wakili argued that none of the major political actors who initially joined forces with Atiku in Adamawa remained in the ADC, insisting that the former presidential candidate could not be separated from the party’s current challenges.
According to him, prominent politicians who once formed the backbone of the coalition have either left for rival parties or are considering their next political destinations.
Wakili claimed that former governorship candidate Aishatu Binani had moved to the NDC, while former Adamawa State governor Jibrilla Bindow was consulting widely before deciding his political future.
He further alleged that former Senator Ishaku Abbo had joined the Labour Party and that Abdulaziz Nyako had defected to the ruling APC.
“Amongst the political heavyweights that started the coalition in Adamawa, not even one is with Atiku and ADC today. No matter how you look at it, you can’t excuse Atiku from this mess,” Wakili wrote.
He added that Atiku was now left with only a handful of loyal supporters within the party.
“Binani left for NDC. Bindow is consulting and deciding on his next political step. Abbo left for the Labour Party. Abdulaziz Nyako left for the APC,” he stated.
According to Wakili, repeated warnings about the situation were ignored by Atiku’s supporters.
“Atiku is left with his son Adamu, Baba 10, and the likes. Baba really fumbled Adamawa. We warned them, but they said we don’t like Atiku. Nah, I don’t dislike him, I am just a realist,” he added.
Peoples Daily reports that the comments came amid mounting controversy within the ADC following the resignation of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, from the party.
Lawal had announced his exit from the ADC on Monday, alleging that the party’s presidential primary election was manipulated in favour of Atiku, a claim that has further fueled debate over the party’s internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.
