The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has wielded the big stick against one of its governorship aspirants, Alhaji Ladi Hassan, suspending him from all party activities for one month over alleged anti-party conduct and acts of indiscipline.
The suspension was conveyed in a letter issued by the Magaji Ngeri Ward Executive Committee in Ilorin West Local Government Area and dated June 2, 2026.
According to the ward leadership, Hassan was previously notified of allegations bordering on anti-party activities through a letter dated May 30, 2026, and was directed to appear before a seven-member disciplinary committee within 48 hours to respond to the accusations.
However, the committee said the governorship aspirant failed to honour the invitation, a development it interpreted as acceptance of the allegations levelled against him.
“Your failure to comply constitutes an admission of guilt of anti-party activities, acts of indiscipline, and gross misconduct, all of which contravene the principles and code of conduct of the Party,” the suspension letter stated.
The ward executive committee explained that its action was based on the provisions of Sections 57 and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, which outline sanctions for members found guilty of misconduct and actions deemed detrimental to the party.
As part of the disciplinary measures, Hassan was suspended from all PDP-related activities and functions for a period of one month with immediate effect.
“The Ward Executive Committee hereby suspends you from all Party activities and functions for a period of one month, with effect from the date of this letter,” the committee said.
The suspension also bars him from participating in meetings, programmes and engagements of the party at the ward, local government, state and national levels throughout the duration of the sanction.
The development is expected to generate fresh political debate within the Kwara PDP as preparations for the 2027 governorship contest gather momentum.
Party officials have yet to indicate whether further disciplinary action could follow after the expiration of the suspension period.
