The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has lauded the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr Farouk Ahmed, describing his leadership as visionary and impactful, especially in areas with direct implications for Nigeria’s youth and future economy.
During a solidarity visit to the Authority’s headquarters in Abuja, the student leaders said they were inspired to celebrate Engr. Ahmed’s achievements, not only as regulatory milestones, but as reforms that show deliberate inclusion of the next generation in Nigeria’s energy transition.
According to NAPS President, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan, the Farouk-led NMDPRA has laid a firm foundation that reflects both technical competence and forward-looking policies.
“We are here in recognition of the progress recorded under Engr. Ahmed. As students and future engineers, energy managers, and policymakers, we believe his work aligns with the values of sustainability, innovation, and youth empowerment,” he said.
Among the areas applauded by the students include: CNG Expansion: Over $400 million in private investment mobilized; CNG refueling stations tripled, and a growing fleet of cleaner, gas-powered vehicles now operating across the country.
Refinery Licensing Drive: Issuance of 77 refinery licenses — a bold move that has triggered the establishment of modular refineries in several states.
Kaduna Refinery Revamp: With rehabilitation at over 81% completion, thousands of jobs have been created and Nigeria’s refining independence strengthened.
Decade of Gas Implementation: Policies such as the Gas Network Code and major pipeline projects are positioning Nigeria as a regional energy leader.
Industry Sustainability Agenda: Launch of the Nigerian Industry Sustainability Initiative (NISI) targeting $575 billion in energy-related investment.
Responding on behalf of the Authority, NMDPRA’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. George Ene-Ita, expressed appreciation for the students’ approach and their genuine interest in national development.
“This is the kind of civic engagement we encourage — where young Nigerians ask questions, recognize value, and engage peacefully. Our CEO is aware of your visit and your message will be conveyed,” he said.
Ene-Ita also noted that while the Authority prefers to “let its work speak quietly at the last mile,” such as refueling stations and gas terminals, the recognition from future industry stakeholders was deeply appreciated.
He added, “We invite students and institutions across the country to engage us further. Our doors are open, and our mission remains clear — to regulate responsibly and enable energy for all.”
The visit signals growing interest by students in energy reforms and national development policy, particularly as it concerns sustainability, infrastructure, and youth inclusion.
