Poor power supply: Stop blame game, you’ve failed – ADC chieftain tells Tinubu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Eze Chukwuemeka, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the persistent challenges in Nigeria’s power sector, urging him to take responsibility rather than blame past administrations.
In a statement issued on Monday, Eze recalled the President’s campaign promise ahead of the 2023 general elections to reform and stabilise electricity supply, noting that Nigerians were yet to see significant improvement.
He described the current situation in the power sector as dire, alleging that frequent grid collapses and widespread outages have continued without lasting solutions.
Eze said he was surprised by recent comments attributed to the President, in which he reportedly blamed previous governments for the sector’s woes, insisting that such explanations were no longer tenable.
According to him, the administration should account for the resources committed to the sector over the past three years, rather than shifting responsibility.
He argued that the continued challenges in electricity supply have had adverse effects on citizens, adding that workers in the sector now face increasing risks due to public frustration.
The ADC chieftain further maintained that even if structural issues existed prior to the current administration, the President had pledged to address them and should therefore be held accountable for the outcomes.
Eze also called on Nigerians to evaluate the government’s performance based on its promises, stressing that leadership should be judged by results.
President Tinubu had earlier attributed the country’s electricity challenges to structural deficiencies arising from the privatisation of the power sector by previous administrations, a position Eze rejected.
He insisted that the focus should be on delivering practical solutions to improve power supply, rather than engaging in what he described as a blame game.
