Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State have debunked speculations of imminent defections by key members, reaffirming their commitment to remain in the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The position was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Dutse, where party leaders, elders and members pledged unity and loyalty amid ongoing political realignments across the country.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the stakeholders urged all aspirants seeking elective positions to promptly obtain nomination forms from the party secretariat before the deadline for submission.
They emphasised the importance of early preparation, discipline and adherence to party guidelines to ensure a smooth and credible primary election process.
The meeting also reaffirmed allegiance to former governor of the state, Sule Lamido, describing him as a stabilising force and a symbol of grassroots politics within the PDP.
Participants expressed confidence in Lamido’s leadership and called on party members to remain united in pursuit of the party’s objectives.
The development follows earlier reports suggesting that the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Mustapha Lamido, was considering a defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, it was gathered that the move did not materialise after both parties failed to reach a consensus.
Stakeholders maintained that the renewed commitment to the PDP has effectively put to rest rumours of defection, expressing optimism that the party would perform strongly in the 2027 polls.
Jigawa State PDP Chairman, Babandi Ibrahim, assured members of transparent, inclusive and fair processes in the party’s activities going forward.
