A grassroots politician in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Yusuf Zaki, has called on party stakeholders to support Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai for governor in 2027, arguing that Yobe South senatorial zone should produce the next governor.

Speaking with journalists in Potiskum town, on Monday, Zaki noted that since Nigeria’s return to democracy, Yobe East (Zone B) and Yobe North (Zone A) have predominantly held the governorship.

He recalled that Senator Mamman Ali (Zone B) died in office, after which his deputy, Ibrahim Gaidam (Zone A), completed the term and served two full terms.

He added that the current Governor, Mai Mala Buni, is also from Zone A.

“Yobe South is ready and deserving of the governorship position,” Zaki said.

“We have someone like Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, whose capacity, educational background, and integrity speak volumes. His selfless service has begun to break the jinx of stagnation in our area.”

Zaki listed Bomai’s achievements since becoming senator, including road and drainage projects, healthcare improvements, foreign scholarship programs, and youth and women empowerment initiatives.

“He is a detribalized leader who treats everyone equally, regardless of religion, tribe, or political orientation,” Zaki added.

Zaki also urged the APC to back Bomai to sustain Governor Buni’s legacies and ensure electoral victory, warning that Yobe South’s large population of independent-minded voters should not be overlooked.

“Our votes are critical for APC to maintain its hold in Yobe State,” he said.

The endorsement signals growing political realignment ahead of the 2027 governorship race, as Yobe South pushes for a shift in leadership representation.
